Original Story
Situated in Chiang Mai, a picturesque city located in the mountains of Northern Thailand, Maladee Rendezvous Hotel was born from the owner’s dream to transform the family’s private home into a small luxury hotel that offers guests an authentic local experience and to discover the true spirit of Chiang Mai in a leisurely and meaningful way.
Chiang Mai’s historical charming neighborhood of Charoen Prathet Road which passes in front of Maladee Rendezvous Hotel offers a rich vein of history ready to be discovered. This region of diverse cultures even had the honor of welcoming King Rama V during his visit to Northern Thailand.
In the beginning of the 1900s, before the construction of roads and railways, this neighborhood was one of the most active areas in the city, largely populated by Thai and Chinese merchants and Western buyers. The nearby Ping River was used to transport everything from fruits and vegetables to giant trunks of teak trees.
In the late 1900s, “Mr. Mana Chaiphanichapun” started his stationary business, “Manapanich”, in Chiang Mai City and built his private home and warehouse on Charoen Prathet Road, which has since been transformed into Maladee Rendezvous Hotel.
Nowadays, the whole street has kept the same essence of diversity with temples along the river, a public park, a 100-year-old Christian church nested in one of Chiang Mai’s most famous girls’ schools, the French Consulate, the former British Council, chic cafes, and vintage shops…a world of peacefulness, yet in the heart of the city. Respecting the family heritage, the hotel was named after Mr. Mana and his wife, Mrs. Daranee, which became “Maladee”.
